Garden Isle Gearing Up for 22nd Annual Taste of Hawaii: “The Ultimate Sunday BrunchTM”
Lihue, Kauai--The Rotary Club of Kapaa is gearing up for the 22nd Annual Taste of Hawaii “The Ultimate Sunday Brunch™” to take place on June 6, 2010 at Smith’s Tropical Paradise. Voted the “Best Community Event” five years running, Kauai’s Taste of Hawaii was the first culinary event of its kind in the islands and it has consistently been a statewide favorite attracting more than 2,000 attendees and growing every year. This year’s affair will feature event founder Chef Jean-Marie Josselin and nationally renowned Chef Alan Wong as Honorary Chef Chairs.
Taste of Hawaii celebrates 21 years of bringing island residents and visitors together to eat great food, meet the state’s top chefs and experience Kauai at its finest. Attendees spend the afternoon sampling exceptional dishes and inter-acting with Hawaii’s best chefs in a beautiful 30-acre private park. Throughout the day participants also enjoy a variety of entertainment acts, celebrity chef appearances, numerous prize giveaways and a well-stocked Boutique Auction offering Hawaii’s finest locally made products. Chef Jean-Marie Josselin founded this event in 1988 when he had a vision to bring the community together to recognize and enjoy the culinary talents of Hawaii while raising funds for people in the community who need it most. What started as a grassroots fundraiser honoring only a handful of chefs and drawing a crowd of a few hundred has grown to highlight more than 50 chefs and attract thousands of attendees.
In response to the tough economy, the Rotary Club of Kapaa has dropped ticket prices to only $75 this year to ensure that island residents can still afford to attend. For the all-inclusive price of an entry ticket, you can eat and drink all you want, tasting each chef’s fares and stopping in at the beverage tents to sample beers and wines from around Hawaii. Along with providing a delectable afternoon, this event raises much-needed funds for scholarship programs, community projects and youth services in Hawaii that rely on the Rotary Club’s financial assistance.
